Why does the filter element of a vacuum oil purifier require special protection?

Vacuum oil filters primarily rely on a filter element to remove impurities. The filter elements in vacuum oil filters are typically categorized into coarse and fine types. At the heart of the filter is the filter element, which consists of a filter housing, a stainless steel mesh, and fibrous materials. The stainless steel mesh is a vulnerable component that requires special protection.

The importance of maintaining the filter elements of vacuum oil purifiers is outlined below:

  1. The filtration accuracy of a coarse filter element typically ranges from 20 to 50 µm, and it is usually made of stainless steel wire mesh, allowing it to be repeatedly cleaned and reused.

Vacuum oil filter malfunction caused by a clogged coarse filter element: severe insufficient oil flow at the inlet, preventing the oil filter from functioning properly.

  2. The filtration accuracy of fine filter elements typically ranges from 3 to 10 µm, and high‑precision filtering materials are selected, such as glass fiber composites. Due to their high filtration efficiency, these elements are difficult to clean once clogged. Therefore, during maintenance, the drain valve at the bottom of the fine filter should be opened after each oil filtration cycle to discharge contaminated oil. To prevent the prolonged formation of sludge, this step may be omitted.

To ensure the cleanliness of the vacuum oil filter element, we must clean it promptly. The procedure is as follows:

  1. Before cleaning the vacuum oil filter, stop the filter’s operation, close both the inlet and outlet oil lines, and turn off the power switch.

  2. Open the oil drain valve and drain all the oil from the filter until it stops flowing (open the air vent valve to speed up the draining process).

  3. After removing the filter element, open the filter cover and take out the filter element.

  4. Remove the filter element from the vacuum oil filter, place it in an oil pan containing kerosene, soak for 30 minutes, then clean it and blow it dry with compressed air.

  5. Use a brush to remove deposits from the filter surface, then clean the filter with a cloth.

  6. Then install the filter element and tighten the filter bolts. The system may be put into service only after cleaning.
